MEET THE DESIGNER
So, I’m pretty sure you clicked on this section of my website to discover my extensive list of accolades and degrees, fancy international travels and a beautifully painted picture of my childhood while growing up, right? Let’s be real, you didn’t come here to read another common biography of some fancy-smancy interior designer. Simply put, I’m JaLynda Elaine; a HBCU double-graduate and Marietta, GA native with an indisputable passion for creativity and design.
I am the mommy to two beautiful girls and I am happily married to my best friend, project manager and the true muscle behind our family business-- my amazing husband. After installation day, you will understand why we've been nicknamed, "The Drumgoole Duo!"
When it comes to interior for our homes, I’ve come to a realization that selecting a designer to work with can be a little intimidating and even overwhelming at times. Candidly, I can only imagine the feeling of inviting a complete stranger into my space and revealing the details of my life. I want to share a little bit about myself in hopes that should we have the pleasure to meet and collaborate, you feel as if we are already great friends! Deal?
I guess I should spill the beans, right? Well here it goes. From a very young age, I was often told I had an eye for design and a natural creative gift. I could transform anything into something, if you get my drift. From decorating the homes of my Barbie dolls as a little girl (in much detail I’d like to add) to rearranging furniture in my bedroom as a teenager, my skills with design became very apparent to anyone around me. I began to find happiness in uncovering the countless ways I could rearrange or recreate a space.
I knew early on that I possessed a creative bone growing up in grade school but the real wakeup call regarding my creative gift, was super noticeable once I returned home from graduate school at Savannah State University and landed my first job out of school. I had just started a career in insurance—great money and experiences, but I knew early on, my creative juices had suddenly taken a plateau once I adjusted to the new role. It seemed as though my naturally creative instinct was now non-existent, and the only way I could express my creativity at work was through my very own cubicle—yep, you read that right! My cubicle screamed, “Hey everyone! I’m super creative and bold & if I’m required to work in this box for eight hours, let’s make this place feel like home dangit!” From matching picture frames, bedazzled stapler and scissor sets, to a pink high heel & handbag tape dispenser, my cubicle was designed luxuriously for my comfort. Not only did I feel a tad bit out of place—but, it was also very obvious to my coworkers, that I was not your typical insurance underwriter. Go figure.
Fast forward through four years of working in Corporate America, getting married to the love of my life and having a beautiful baby girl who was born prematurely and would force me to resign sooner than I was expecting, I knew it was time to really start doing some serious soul searching. I found myself at a standstill. I was no longer content with going to work everyday and not living in my calling. I desired more.
After the frustrations of not being happy in my career, I began to dig deeper within-- with high hopes of discovering what my true purpose was and what I could see myself enjoying forever. I knew I always enjoyed thrifting for my work attire as well as furniture for my first apartment, but I never thought of making extra income doing so—
until the day a former classmate asked if she could pay me to do some shopping for her. BINGO. Ideas started brewing, light bulbs were flickering and before I knew it, my husband and I were standing in the kitchen brainstorming a company name and drawing up a logo. I was ready for this entrepreneurial journey.
I spent the next few years focusing on wardrobe and personal styling and finally, by popular demand, I decided to add on another service, which would focus on interior design and event decorating. Fast-forwarding to today, not much has changed about little ol’ me in that respect. When I walk into a new space, I instantly see the way it should be and now how it appears currently—there’s always a much bolder and beautiful picture in my eyes. From designing a single mother’s home in Savannah to a client’s law office in Atlanta, my knack for space planning and design is immeasurable. With every project I lay hands on, I take a valiant and bold approach to renovating any space that comes my way. I possess an essential understanding of my surroundings and I allow my passion for design to simply be fierce and run wild.
Presently, you can catch me wandering around the Atlanta area exploring my niche in the world of Interior Design. When I’m not designing, you can find me spending time with my husband and two little girls, enjoying lunch and wine with friends, visiting a thrift shop or discovering a new destination, all the while searching for inspiration. I’m thankful everyday to my wonderful husband who granted me the chance to chase my dreams and to my clients who have entrusted me with their homes and presented me the opportunity to live out my passion. I live and breathe for moments to create magic in a home & most importantly, building relationships with the people who dwell in it.
As I continue to experience creative growth and artistic freedom I find myself right where I belong- living the life I have always imagined and have always dreamed of having! I can’t wait for what the future has in store… let’s make magic!
Creatively Yours,
I knew it was time to really start doing some serious soul searching. I found myself at a standstill. I was no longer content with going to work everyday and not living in my calling. I desired more.
